On November 18, 2025, the first-year students of the Southville International Medical Health Sciences Institute (SIMHSI) brought their advocacy for environmental protection to Captain Albert Aguilar National High School (CAANHS) through an hour-long Environmental Awareness Campaign held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The activity centered on the theme “Direct Link Between Environmental Degradation and Community Vulnerability to Disasters,” reminding students that environmental issues directly influence the safety and resilience of communities—particularly those living in disaster-prone areas.

Guided by the objectives of Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness (DRRR) and the National Service Training Program (NSTP), the campaign highlighted the critical need for informed action among the youth. It aimed not only to share knowledge but also to cultivate a sense of responsibility, encouraging participants to recognize their role in shaping a safer and more sustainable environment.

A total of 35 CAANHS students from BSP, SSLG, the Pen Aviation Club, and various Grade 9 sections took part in the event. Their active engagement throughout the discussions reflected their growing awareness of environmental issues and their willingness to contribute to community resilience.

The sessions were led by SIMHSI students from the Medical Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Pharmacy programs, who were organized into seven committees. Each group presented topics related to sustainable living, responsible waste management, energy-saving habits, and personal and environmental hygiene. Their presentations were designed to be interactive and relatable, helping CAANHS learners connect the lessons to real-life scenarios in their homes and community.

More than just a seminar, the campaign served as a timely reminder that meaningful change begins with everyday actions. The event emphasized that small decisions, choosing to conserve resources, keeping surroundings clean, or practicing mindful consumption, collectively contribute to a safer and more resilient future. Through this initiative, SIMHSI continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing socially responsible students who are prepared to lead and protect the communities they serve.
